BKS Iyengar considered yoga to be an art, a science and a philosophy. He believed that by demonstrating the postures with harmony and beauty, he would attract people to the subject of yoga, so that they could explore the science of knowing the body, and the philosophy of knowing the mind.
Here at Feathered Pipe Ranch, the beauty of nature abounds. That beauty is enhanced by artworks created from found materials on the ranch, and sacred sites intended to raise our consciousness.
As I take my daily walks around the ranch, it’s wonderful to sit by the creek and listen to the gentle flow of the water. I love hiking up to the stupa, where prayer flags flutter in the wind, dispersing the blessings of their sacred mantras across the land.
Various formations of stone and wood bring a smile or a moment of contemplation.
The beauty and intentionality of this environment have supported an incredible yoga journey this week. It has been inspiring to see the transformation in every person here. Our wonderful teachers Elise and Susan Elena have guided us with wisdom, compassion and love. The land itself has been like another teacher, showing us how to slow down, breathe, and connect to the healing energy all around us.
I have benefited through the intensive practice of asanas, and through immersion in this sacred environment. I feel deep relaxation and expansiveness of my awareness. I recognize how necessary it is to take breaks from daily routines and rest into nature, art, beauty and yoga.
Namaste,
Karen
