The bags are packed and weighed. I am enjoying a quiet evening before tomorrow’s travels. We will fly from New York directly to Mumbai, stay overnight there, and get a car to Pune on Sunday. Everything is in place for a wonderful month. I also know that travel and India can bring obstacles and surprises, so I will try to take those in stride.
One aspect that will be different from previous trips to India is that I will travel outside of Pune. My roommates and I plan to visit the Ellora and Ajanta Caves. These are World Heritage sites dating to the first and second centureis BC. These areas contain Buddhist, Hindu and Jain temples, monasteries and other structures excavated from volcanic rock and containing amazing statues and murals. I look forward to experiencing these sacred sites.
